Pigs Yanked In Finale, Lose 7-0 At PNC Field

Pigs Fail To Sweep Yanks, Lose 7-0
SWB Starter Alfredo Aceves Tosses Eight Scoreless Frames
Another shutout in Moosic, this time, however, the Pigs were on the wrong end of things, as they fell to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre by a score of 7-0 in the finale of their two-game set from PNC Field on Wednesday. The win by the 16-3 Yankees, comes one day after they were shutout by the IronPigs, who won the opener 6-0.
Scranton hurler Alfredo Aceves (2-0) started the game and was dominant. The 26-year-old Mexican native allowed just three hits and one walk over eight scoreless innings, to earn his second win of the season. Aceves needed just 91 pitches to get through eight outstanding innings, and was helped out by his offense which looked more like the offense the IronPigs saw at Coca-Cola Park earlier this season.
Yankees RF Shelley Duncan continued to thrive against the IronPigs. Duncan, who entered the game with three home runs and thirteen RBI's in nine career games against Lehigh Valley, jacked a two-run homer in the first off of Pigs starter Justin Lehr (3-1) to give the defending Governor's Cup champs an early 2-0 lead.
Lehr, who entered play on Wednesday off to a great start in 2009, was not the same pitcher he was in his previous three games. After allowing two runs in the first, Lehr allowed two more runs in the second inning, and trailed by a score of 4-0 after just two innings. Before Wednesday's game, Lehr was 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA in 14 innings pitched against SWB in his career.
Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Yankees started to rally with two-outs. After both P.J. Piliterre and Luis Nunez drew two-out walks, Lehr met up with Yankees slugger John Rodriguez. A N.Y. native, Rodriguez made the most of his opportunity in the fourth, as he jumped on the Lehr offering and drove it over the left field wall for a big three-run home run to give the Yanks a 7-0 lead.
Lehr had his worst outing as a member of the IronPigs. He allowed seven earned runs in just four innings and was saddled with just his first loss of the season.
On a positive note for Lehigh Valley, the bullpen continued to impress on Wednesday. Jason Anderson came on in relief of Lehr and tossed three shutout innings while reliever Steve Green added a shutout inning. With the four shutout innings on Wednesday, the IronPigs bullpen added to their dominance as they have now allowed just one earned run in their last thirty-six innings pitched.
Next up for Lehigh Valley will be a four-game set with Toledo at Coca-Cola Park beginning on Thursday evening. Taking the hill for the Pigs will be Kyle Kendrick (1-1, 3.60) in the opener. Kendrick will be opposed by Ruddy Lugo (2-0, 4.00) who makes the start for Toledo. Lugo is the brother of Julio Lugo, who the IronPigs saw just a few days ago with Pawtucket.
Matt Provence and Jon Schaeffer will have the call beginning at 6:35 p.m. with the AT&T pre-game show on the IronPigs Radio Network.  The game will also be televised live along the IronPigs Television Network powered by Service Electric Cable TV & Communications.
