| 2009 IronPigs 3B Terry Tiffee Named to All-Tournament Team |
| Terry Tiffee, who enjoyed a solid season for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in 2009, along with Cedrick Bowers, a vital part of the 'Pigs 2009 bullpen, celebrated with their teammates on Sunday, as Team USA won the 2009 IBAF Baseball World Cup at Stadio Borghese in Nettuno, Italy with a 10-5 victory over Cuba. |
| The 2009 USA Baseball World Cup Team set five new USA records including at-bats (525), hits (157), home runs (38), innings pitched (133) and most strikeouts by a pitching staff (127). The U.S. outscored its opponents 118-42 in the tournament. |
| In Sunday's tournament winning game, Team USA broke a 4-4 tie by scoring six runs in the top of the seventh inning, which gave them a 10-4 lead over Cuba at that point. Justin Smoak, Jon Weber, Terry Tiffee, Josh Kroeger and May all plated runs with RBI singles in the six-run seventh frame. |
| Smoak, who led the team with nine home runs and twenty-two RBI's, was named the 2009 World Cup Most Valuable Player. Drafted by the Texas Rangers in the first round (11th overall) of the 2008 MLB draft, Smoak was also named to the 2009 IBAF World Cup All-Tournament Team along with fellow Team U.S.A. players Terry Tiffee and Jon Weber. |
| Tiffee, who hit .268 with five home runs and thirty-four RBI's for the IronPigs in 2009, finished second on Team USA with a stunning batting average of .357 (56 at-bats). A native of Arkansas, Tiffee also launched four home runs and added twenty RBI's for Team USA. A member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Baseball Team, Tiffee enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2008 with had 351 at bats with Triple-A Las Vegas, when he hit .376 with eight home runs, and 61 RBI's. |
| Bowers, who posted a 4-3 mark and a 1.93 ERA in forty-eight games for the 'Pigs in 2009, appeared in six games for Team USA. Over his six games (3 & 1/3 IP), Bowers posted a 0-0 record with a 5.40 ERA. A native of Florida, Bowers finished the 2009 campaign without allowing an earned run in his final seven appearances. |
