Happ moved from Philadelphia's bullpen to its rotation in late May and appeared in 35 games and 23 starts. He struck out 119 batters in 166 innings pitched and had two shutouts. Happ pitched in relief in Game 2 of the NLDS against Colorado and started Game 3. He has pitched twice in relief in the NLCS.
He spent a majority of 2008 with the IronPigs and went 8-7 with a 3.60 ERA in 24 games. The Northwestern product finished 2nd in the International League with 151 strikeouts in 135.0 innings pitched (10.1 SO/9.0 IP) and held opposing hitters to a .234 average. Four times last season Happ reached double digits in strikeouts, including a season-high 13, May 9 against Columbus. Happ made five appearances for the Phillies last season, going 0-0 with a 5.71 ERA.
